Barton ran two main services routes between Peterborough and Stamford, taken over with its acquisition of Patch's 'Cream Bus' operation. One ran via 'the villages' to the north-west of Peterborough (Marholm, Helpston, Barnack, Bainton and Ufford) and the other via a westerly, then northern route (through Castor, Ailsworth, Wansford and the Wittering RAF station).
In this picture, the main give away is the clock 'tower' of 'The Lido' swimming pool in the background. Another landmark from this era was the electricity pylon whose cables cut across the adjacent public car park, between the bus station and the Embankment.
Night illumination also allows dating of pictures, with open face lights being replaced by large, more efficient 'searchlight' and then the modern style of street lights.
It is possible to date some southern aspect pictures by looking for the 'Key Theatre' as this was not built 'til the early 70's.
With the opening of the new Queensgate Bus Station in the early 80's, Bishop's Road became disused and is now taken up by Peterborough's Crown and Magistrates' courts.
For those who may be interestes, at some point in the future, I hope to post a website that gives more detail of the various companies that ran around Peterborough and the western operating area of old Eastern Counties Omnibus Company (as far south as Cambridge, north into Lincolnshire, east to King's Lynn and west to Leicester, Nottingham and Northamptonshire). To this end, I'd be grateful to anyone who might be able to provide quality images like this, with appropriate credits and recognition, for use on the site.

Location?
Can anybody identify the location for this picture as I've forgotten where it was taken! I think it's possibly either Peterborough or Spalding.
