I think that there should be gaps between the tracks at New Malden becuase I was travelling from Kingston to Wimbledon on a SWT class 455 and suddenly a Desiro class 445 came rushing through extermely fast right next to our trains and the carriage...

The reason for so many stations having large gaps between platforms is because there used to be lines running in between them I/E as mentioned Newcastle being one station to have a large gap there used to be another two lines between the two mainline...

The reason for so many stations having large gaps between platforms is because there used to be lines running in between them I/E as mentioned Newcastle being one station to have a large gap there used to be another two lines between the two mainline platforms at Newcastle same again at York station and quite a few more Carlisle is another one that has a gap in between the platforms.
